The book is constituted out of a large number of fascinating stories Comstock gathered from her encounters with other influential people from the business world, like Steve Jobs and Jack Welch. Besides the captivating stories, Comstock is also sharing practical advice that anybody could use to have a more fulfilling life and a better career.

Ideas such as being innovative and creative while constantly getting better and pushing your boundaries are only a few ideas of Beth Comstock’s personal philosophy. The whole book shares the lessons Comstock picked up along her career in an attempt to motivate people to stop making excuses and start living a better life.

Great at Work by Morten Hansen

Morten Hansen is a management professor at Berkeley and author that has published the “Great at Work” book as a result of his studies on more than 5000 managers and employees. The book highlights his discoveries, outlining the things that matter the most when it comes to high performance in the workplace.

Hansen is trying to share through his book a large number of better work practices that would benefit both the employee but also the employer in the long run. Hansen also shares his views on the relationships between the boss and the employee, considering that sometimes it’s better for the employee to focus more time on fewer, already started projects than to take up more tasks from the boss.

In the same book, Morten Hansen shares his opinion on the idea of doing what you like and following your passion. He considers that all individuals should work in an environment that matches both their passion but also their higher purpose in the attempt of contributing their community by doing what they like.

Mastering the Market Cycle by Howard Marks

This book from Howard Marks touches a similar theme as the last book about economics showcased in our first part of The Best Business Books of 2018. Howard Marks is one of the most successful investors and one of the richest people in the world and the co-founder of Oaktree Capital.

As part of his many big investing accomplishments, Howard and his business partner bought in total $10 billion worth of assets at the bottom of the financial crisis from ten years ago, earning a whopping $7.5 billion dollars for themselves and their clients.

Considering his experience, there’s no doubt that Howard Marks is able to notice the trends in the market and predict the future, to some extent. Because of that, his book is filled with insightful lessons and tactics essential for understanding the market and how to win in the next crash.
